c.v. - COMPUTER MUSIC TYPESETTING

When I studied at the WA Conservatorium of Music in the mid 1980s, computer music notation software was about to take off in a big way.  I was fortunate that one of my lecturers, Anthony Maydwell, upon discovering my unbridled enthusiasm for the prospect, developed an elective to enable me to study with him a unit based around the MS-DOS based SCORE program developed by the late Stanford University Professor, Dr Leland Smith. I was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time - to have an institution flexible enough to create a unit based on the enthusiasm of a single student, to have a lecturer happy to go down what could have been a rabbit-hole (not that that phrase carried the meaning that it does now). The first publication I produced (1990) using this software was the first edition of Macedonian Folk Music with my friend Linsey Pollak.  Since 2004 I have used Sibelius for many projects, but also continue to use SCORE - despite the technical difficulties of persevering with an MS-DOS program in the 21st Century.
